OVERSEAS WORKERS VOICES UGANDA

Overseas Workers Voices Uganda

Overseas Workers Voices UgandaOverseas Workers Voices Uganda (OWVU) is a frontline organisation working to protect Ugandan migrant workers from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking. Founded by anti-human trafficking activist Mwiza Marriam, the organisation was established in response to the severe realities faced by Ugandans working abroad, particularly domestic workers in the Middle East. OWVU exists to ensure migrant workers are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect, not as disposable labour.

Under Mwiza’s leadership, OWVU provides direct support to migrant workers facing abuse through advocacy, legal assistance, and repatriation support. The organisation works with affected individuals and families, engages authorities and international partners, and pushes for accountability where systems fail. Its work is grounded in real cases involving unpaid wages, violence, coercion, and trafficking, with survivor safety and practical outcomes at the centre of every intervention.

Alongside crisis response, OWVU is committed to prevention and long-term change. Drawing on Mwiza’s frontline experience, the organisation invests in community education, sensitisation, and policy advocacy to reduce vulnerability before migration occurs. By amplifying migrant voices and challenging the structures that enable exploitation, OWVU works to create safer migration pathways and stronger protections for Ugandan workers at home and abroad.
